American enterprise Waymo has revealed that its self-driving cabs will be available for use on London's streets beginning next year.

UK Capital Named as Pioneering European City for Autonomous Ride-Hailing.

The UK capital will emerge as the first European city to introduce an driverless taxi service, similar to those currently familiar in San Francisco and several American locations using Waymo's cutting-edge technology.

Waymo stated that its cars are currently heading to London and will begin driving on the capital's roads in the near future with trained human specialists behind the wheel.

The company – originally formed as a derivative from the tech giant's autonomous vehicle project and part of the larger corporate umbrella – explained it would increase activities and partner with the Department for Transport and the city's mobility organization to secure the required licenses to deliver completely driverless services by 2026.

A more extensive deployment of driverless taxis is expected in the UK after the related legislation fully takes effect in late 2027.

Waymo currently has links to the UK after establishing its inaugural European research base in Oxford in 2019.

It is additionally starting operations in Tokyo using JLR eco-friendly cars, marking its second existing operation beyond the US.
